Howard Kagan & Janet Kagan
Maxolev Productions, the New York based Production Company of Howard & Janet Kagan, produces entertaining commercial shows with atypical heroes, especially strong independent women.
The Kagans won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical for the past two years in a row – in 2013 for Pippin and in 2012 for The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess starring Audra MacDonald. On Broadway, the Kagans have also produced Hands on a Hardbody (with music by Trey Anastasio of PHISH and music and lyrics by Amanda Green), David Mamet’s The Anarchist (starring Patti Lupone and Debra Winger), and Bonnie & Clyde. The Kagans are also the producers of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, the critically acclaimed electropop opera that had a hit downtown run in the Meatpacking District this past summer and is now currently playing in the theatre district.
Mr. and Mrs. Kagan both had successful careers on Wall Street for many years. They are members of the Advisory Board of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art known for its Party of the Year sponsored by Vogue. Mr. Kagan is on the board of the non-profit developmental theater Ars Nova. Mr. Kagan is also a member of the board of the Horace Mann School and The New Group. Mrs. Kagan is a member of the board of the Worldwide Orphans Foundation, and the advisory board of Children’s Rights Watch, a division of Human Rights Watch.
